There are many many combinations of drugs available today for the treatment of HIV. Anyone who is on Combination Therapy is, like it sounds, on a combination of treatments. In the early days when I was considering treatment, what was very important to me was quality of life. I am very committed to my quality of life rather than my quantity of life. In the early days I tried drugs like AZT which a lot of people have heard about, which for me had many side effects, and so I found that my quality of life was decreased. So I decided to cut off the drug. Until other drugs came along which had many more side effects, or side effects which I felt I could manage and live with. I've now found a combination of drugs, which took a little time to find, which works very very well for me. Yes, they do have a few side effects, but I am able to manage those side effects and they pretty much don't interfere with my everyday living. And in fact my viral load is now undetectable which means that the amount of virus in my blood stream is not detectable, its very inactive. My CD4 count which is the cell that the virus attacks is increasing, regularly increasing, and my immune system is beginning to function effectively and is able to keep HIV at bay.
